General Requirements
- Pass vision test
- Pass written knowledge test
- Pass road skills test
- Residency: Must be a Rhode Island resident. New residents must obtain a Rhode Island license within 30 days of establishing residency.
- Parental consent: Required for applicants under 18 years of age. Parent/guardian must sign the application.
- Other: Applicants under 18 must complete a 33-hour driver education course certified by the Community College of Rhode Island. Must hold learner permit for at least 6 months before applying for provisional license. Must complete 50 hours of supervised driving (including 10 hours at night) with a licensed driver at least 21 years old with 5+ years of experience. Must hold provisional license for 12 months before applying for full license.
