General Requirements
- Pass vision test
- Pass written knowledge test
- Pass road skills test
- Residency: New residents must obtain a North Carolina driver license within 60 days of establishing residency
- Parental consent: Parent/guardian must sign the application for applicants under 18
- Other: Graduated licensing program for drivers under 18: Level 1 (Limited Learner Permit) requires holding permit for 9 months, completing 60 hours of supervised driving (10 at night); Level 2 (Limited Provisional License) requires no moving violations in preceding 6 months; Level 3 (Full Provisional License) requires holding Level 2 license for 6 months with no moving violations and completing 12 hours of supervised driving (6 at night)
