General Requirements
- Pass vision test
- Pass written knowledge test
- Pass road skills test
- Residency: Must establish Maine residency and provide documentation such as utility bills, bank statements, or mortgage/lease agreements
- Parental consent: Required for applicants under 18 years old
- Other: Applicants under 21 must hold learner's permit for 6 months and complete 70 hours of practice driving (including 10 hours at night). Intermediate license holders under 18 have restrictions for 270 days: no driving between 12am-5am, no non-family passengers unless supervised, and no mobile phone use. Provisional license period is 2 years for drivers 16-20 and 1 year for drivers 21+.
