General Requirements

- Residency: Must provide two proofs of Louisiana residency. Full-time students and military personnel may keep out-of-state residency.
- Parental consent: Required for applicants under 18. Custodial parent or legal guardian must sign the application and present identification. For joint custody, only the domiciliary parent may sign.
- Other: Learner's permit holders must complete 50 hours of supervised driving (15 at night) with a licensed adult at least 21 years old or a licensed sibling at least 18 years old. Intermediate license holders (age 16) must hold permit for at least 180 days, cannot drive between 11 PM and 5 AM without supervision, and have passenger restrictions. Driver's education is required for all first-time applicants regardless of age (38-hour course for minors, 6-hour pre-licensing course for adults 18+). Vision requirement is 20/40 in one or both eyes.
