General Requirements
- Pass vision test
- Pass written knowledge test
- Pass road skills test
- Residency: Must provide two forms of proof of principal residence in Hawaii
- Parental consent: Both parents listed on birth certificate must provide consent for applicants under 18
- Other: Applicants under 18 must complete driver education course with classroom and behind-the-wheel certificates. Provisional license holders must have license for 6 months and be at least 17 years old to convert to full license. Supervised driving requires licensed driver at least 21 years old. Between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m., supervision must be by parent or guardian. Provisional license holders cannot transport more than one passenger under 18 who is not a family member unless accompanied by parent/guardian.
